12 Rounds of Thoughts - Danny "Swift" Garcia vs. Mauricio Herrera

Round 1 – My power went out as soon as the bell rang for the Daniel Jacobs fight… obviously I didn’t miss much.  Great KO and happy to see the young fighter come back from the roughest of circumstances.

Round 2 – I had a feeling the Juanma Lopez was going to surprise people tonight.  After the Mikey Garcia fight, I concluded that he was done… but for some reason felt that he had one more run in him.  His right hook that knocked Daniel “Ponce” De Leon down in the second round was picture perfect.

Round 3 – Lopez needs a couple “gimme” fights to continue to build up his confidence before jumping in the ring with an elite talent.

Round 4 – I’d never seen Deontay Wilder in action… only clips and highlights.  A 6’7” heavyweight with a 100% KO ratio was ever intriguing.  Not to mention, he was facing a legit heavyweight with skill.

Round 5 – I want to thank Malik Scott for his participation or should I say lack of participation in the fight.  It’s ever apparent that Scott wanted no part of Deontay Wilder. The right hand did not land and the left hook grazed Malik.  A shame.

Round 6 – Unfortunately, I have no incite on Deontay Wilder as this fight showed absolutely nothing.

Round 7 – Yesterday I released my blog on Danny Garcia and the importance of his fight with Mauricio Herrera.  It was his moment to show the world that he deserves a shot against Floyd Mayweather.

Round 8 – Mauricio’s game plan was evident… jab Danny and frustrate the undefeated champion.

Round 9 – Danny’s game plan was evident as well.. allow Herrera to be the aggressor and counter punch… counter punch… counter punch.

Round 10 – Herrera’s game plan was better… and executed it to perfection.  He controlled the most of the fight and landed more punches.  It was a very close fight that I scored a draw.  Danny Garcia winning the fight does not upset me… but the scores were garbage.  That was not even close to an 8-4 fight.

Round 11 – Danny “Swift” Garcia had an opportunity to showcase his talents to the world.  Not only that, it was clear that his people were trying to build a strong backing by the Puerto Rican faithful.  He failed on both ends.  The crowd boo’d on multiple occasions throughout the fight and Danny did NOTHING to prove that he is a special fighter.

Round 12 – I’ve said this on multiple occasions… Danny Garcia is a good fighter… a really good fighter… but he isn’t great.  He’s not special.  The 26 yr old Puerto Rican fighting out of Philly does everything well, but nothing exceptional.  He’ll win a lot of fights… but never be the type of fighter that will dominate.
