Bud Light Pro Fight Series Supercharged

Last night, I had the opportunity to cover a fight card for the first time as a member of the media.. I've been to plenty of fights, but with the success of my blog and podcast, I was finally granted press credentials.
It's become obvious that I was born to write about the sport of boxing.
I showed up with my best friend and camera man, Deshun "The Definition" Edwards, and set to find press row. We found two seats directly behind the DJ and one of the judge's seats. The atmosphere was extremely passionate which is to be expected for a smaller promotional card. These people love boxing, plain and simple!
The card took place at the Amon Carter Exhibit Hall in Ft. Worth, Texas. Standing 8 promotions did an excellent job putting on some very entertaining bouts.
Anyone who has been to a fight and sat anywhere near the ring can tell you that it's a whole new sport up close! Hearing the corner men shout out instructions... seeing the fighters wear down... watching the bludgeoning of their faces. It was spectacular stuff. The best part about it? I did not know any of the fighters!
This is the part of the sport that I have challenged myself to be a part of... the local scene.
I know boxing.. I know the history... I've watched for years and continuously study the sport. It's my passion. But in order to achieve the success I pursue, it's imperative I know what's going on around me.
Boxing is alive and well in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and promotional companies like Standing 8, Black Gloves and former champion Paulie Ayala continue to put on quality cards!
Fighter of the Night
Tony Lopez

The fighter of the night was Juan Antonio "Tony" Lopez Jr... He improved to 10-0 and displayed some incredible hand speed and ring generalship in his bout against previously undefeated Isaac Torres. The young bantamweight did some impressive body work and nearly knocked Torres out in the final round on route to a unanimous decision victory. The victory looks bright for the kid...
Fight of the Night
Tony Mack vs. James "Boogie" Freeman
| Photo by Deshun Edwards |
This fight had a little bit of everything! Tony Mack (10-1, 6 KOs) defeated James Freeman by unanimous decision but the fight provided some intense action. Mack had dynamite in his gloves and whenever it looked like Freeman was winning a round, Mack would pummel Freeman with a big shot. There were tons of exchanges and Freeman made up for his lack of power with pure heart and determination. If Mack would have kept his distance for the whole fight keeping Freeman on the end of his punches, it would have been a much easier fight for the Super Middleweight Texas Champion.
