12 Rounds of Thoughts - Chavez Jr. vs. Vera

Here are my thoughts on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr's (48-1-1, 32 KO's) unanimous-decision win over Brian Vera (23-8, 14 KO's)  and Orlando Salido's (41-12-2, 28 KO's) split-decision victory over Vasyl Lomachencko (1-1, 1 KO).

Round 1 – I am unveiling my official nickname for Vasyl Lomachenko… V-Lo

Round 2 – To take on a seasoned, rough and rugged veteran in your second professional bout for a title seemed like a reasonable task for V-Lo.  We were wrong.  It wasn’t a question of skill… but a clear indication of how experience is so important.

Round 3 – When V-Lo is 15-1 in about in 3 years, he’ll look back at this fight as the most important in his career.  So many lessons that will carry him through his journey in the ring.

Round 4 – Salido’s body attack was vicious! He beat the kid from ring post to ring post.  Marcos Maidana should take note for his upcoming bout with Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

Round 5 – Throughout the fight, I kept thinking to myself that Salido was wearing out and if V-Lo would increase his punch output, he would take over the fight… but it didn’t happen until the 11th round.

Round 6 – Salido is the epitome of what makes boxing so great.  All the attention was on V-Lo, yet he went about his business and executed a magnificent game plan and out-muscled the kid.  Congrats to Orlando Salido.

Round 7 – Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. answered the call tonight… and ALMOST put on a flawless performance.

Round 8 – His showboating and thoroughbred impersonation in the 12th round cannot be overlooked.  It was very disheartening and put a bad mark on an otherwise spectacular fight.

Round 9 – Brian Vera redefines relentless and heart.  How he withstood some of the shots he received is a marvel in itself! He took a right hand in the 11th round that would have knocked out 99% of the fighters out there.

Round 10 – Chavez seemed to come into his own in this fight… I’m of the belief that he FINALLY understands what it takes to be a very good fighter and even more importantly, how to be the best Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Round 11 – When Chavez is on… he’s the best body puncher in the sport.

Round 12 – The potential of a GGG-Chavez Jr. really intrigues me.  Even though I would pick GGG to win, Chavez Jr. possesses the power and chin to be threat in every fight.  He’s big, strong and relentless in his attack.
